Simple Dance Fitness Choreo by Jennifer Cepeda
DancePowered In West Seattle
Saturday mornings at Viva Arts in the Alaska Junction
DancePowered is rejoining Viva Arts in West Seattle!! Starting with Saturday mornings in the Alaska Junction when the new studio opens. Exact start date and class time coming soon.
More Dance. Still a Serious Workout.
DancePowered is one of Seattle’s original hip-hop dance fitness formats, created by choreographer and instructor Jennifer Cepeda in 2010.
And after more than 15 years, it’s still hard to put DancePowered into a box.
The choreography pulls from hip-hop, jazz funk, pop, K-pop, Latin, dancehall, Afrobeats, heels-inspired movement, retro favorites, and whatever else Jennifer is obsessed with at the moment.
The music is a huge part of the experience, too. Expect an eclectic, carefully curated playlist that moves across genres, decades, and cultures and keeps the energy changing from beginning to end.
A typical class moves through approximately 15–17 songs in a follow-along format, so you’re continuously dancing rather than stopping to learn long combinations.
But this isn’t choreography watered down into fitness.
Most dance fitness puts the emphasis on the fitness:
dance FITNESS.
DancePowered flips that:
DANCE fitness.
You’ll sweat. You’ll get your heart rate up. You’ll get a serious workout. But the dancing isn’t watered down to get you there.
The choreography is musical, detailed, highly choreographed, and constantly evolving. You’ll work your coordination, rhythm, memory, musicality, and ability to pick up movement while getting a workout at the same time.
If you love that extra challenge, you’ll fit right in.
Beginners and Lifelong Dancers — In the Same Room
One of the most unusual things about DancePowered is the range of people who dance together.
You might find someone taking their first dance class next to someone who has danced for decades.
Both belong here.
You don’t have to get everything the first time. You don’t have to look like the person next to you. And you definitely don’t have to “be a dancer” before you walk through the door.
Jennifer’s philosophy is simple: everyone should feel welcome to learn, grow, and become a stronger dancer on their own timeline.
For those who want a little more help getting started, beginner DancePowered workshops are also coming to West Seattle, giving newer dancers a chance to learn some of the foundational grooves, steps, and movement styles that show up in class.
There Really Isn’t Another Class Quite Like It
Over the years, one of the comments Jennifer hears most often is some version of:
“There’s just nothing else like your class.”
That’s the special sauce of DancePowered.
It’s challenging without requiring perfection. It’s a workout without sacrificing the dancing. It’s highly choreographed without becoming a traditional choreography class.
It’s DANCE fitness — and that difference is what makes DancePowered, DancePowered.
And it’s built around something that matters just as much as the movement:
the joy of being in a room full of people dancing together.
